Create A Backyard Oasis With BBQ Islands & Light Heaters

Home Improvement, House Design, Property Tips0 Comment on Create A Backyard Oasis With BBQ Islands & Light Heaters

I’ve seen many backyards that consisted merely of a patchy field of grass, a cracked concrete patio, and a few kids toys strewn about carelessly. Even I’ve been guilty of having an eye-sore of a backyard. I recently had a friend overhaul an excruciatingly drab outdoor space. I couldn’t believe it was the same backyard formerly covered with patchy grass. Most people probably don’t have the money to spend on an entire backyard makeover, but a few things could make a big difference.

Your backyard should be a place to relax, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors in comfort. There are a few pieces that can really maximized the appearance of your outdoor space and make it a great place to socialize. To assist those of you with a less than attractive backyard, I’ll discuss two enhancements that can make a large difference in your backyard’s appearance.

Give your backyard the WOW factor with these outdoor features:

BBQ Islands and Outdoor Grills

  • If you are planning to buy a new grill for the first time or are looking to upgrade your old grill then a BBQ Island may be a great investment for you. They have a sleek, clean look and come in many different styles. You can have a BBQ Island or built in outdoor kitchen custom made with features that fit your specific needs–stainless steel cabinetry, mini-fridges, spice racks, side burners, and even flat screen televisions are available features on many current models of BBQ Islands. Outdoor BBQ Islands can come with electric or charcoal grills depending on your preference–electric grills are known to be safe and easy to use, while charcoal grills are well known for producing a smoky, mesquite bbq flavor. You may want to consider the following things when researching BBQ Islands:
  1. Built-in or Portable options: Depending on the weather in your region you may need to move your outdoor grill indoors to protect it from the weather.
  2. Electric or Charcoal grill: As mentioned above, this is a matter of preference. If you are new to barbecuing an electric grill may be a safer option. They heat up quickly and are the easiest to use. But if you really love the smoky taste of barbecue then a charcoal grill may be the best option for you.
  3. Side Burners, BBQ Lights, & Other Accessories: When grilling over a hot flame you do not want to have too many pots in the fire or to be caught short handed. Buy accessories that will make grilling an easy and convenient task for you. For example if you want to cook both your main dish and sides in outdoors and serve them at the same time then you may want to purchase a side burner.

Outdoor Heating Lamps

  • If you are considering outdoor lighting of any sort, then outdoor heat lamps may do the trick. You’ve seen them in all of your favorite, fancy outdoor restaurants and bars, and can have one in your home too for a reasonable price. They add a sophisticated look to patio areas, and are great places to warm up and still enjoy the outdoors when the weather cools. Modern outdoor heating lamps come in stainless steel makes with adjustable heating options as well.

Now you are two steps closer to creating your own outdoor oasis. With these outdoor design ideas your backyard will be the hot spot this summer.

Garage Door Types

Home Improvement, House Design0 Comment on Garage Door Types

If you have a home you more than likely have a garage. The problem is that most people will treat the garage area like a stepchild when it comes to home maintenance and in time it can prove to be quite costly. Here’s an interesting little tidbit and something you probably didn’t know. Did you know that your homes largest moving part is the garage door, in most all cases? For almost all homes this holds true. And if you don’t take care of it, all those moving parts can stop working with time and wear.

The garage door, and if you have a garage door opener, need to be maintained just like your other home appliances and fixtures. You might even get into an occasion where you are planning on upgrading an existing garage by adding a new garage door or electric door opener. You might even be looking adding some more sufficient storage areas to it so you can stow away all those tools and seasonal items a bit better. If you’re like most people or really nothing more than a packrat, you can get some very odd and rather large collections going on in a garage that can simply make it unusable. But before we even get there, let’s start on the exterior of the garage itself and talk some about the different types of doors available.

There are basically two main types of garage doors. One model is a tilt-up and the others are sectional roll-ups. A roll-up garage door is one of the most common types on the market today. It’s basically made up of several “sections” that are hinged together and open and close on a roller system. The most popular are those that have the rollers on tracks but there are still some in use that use an actual roller system where the entire garage door looks like a rolled up carpet hanging from the top of your garage. They typically have a torsion spring across the top of the door that helps you when lifting it up as they can be quite heavy. Others may have extension springs along the side that will do the same. They easier of the two to install is the extension springs, but with a torsion spring model you won’t need to maintain it as much as you might the extension springs.

The second type are tilt-up garage doors. You may hear them called swing-up or one-piece doors as well. Basically they are a solid pane system mounted on hinges at the side with spings at the side to ease the lifting. The good benefit to these types of doors is that they are typically less expensive, but you will give up some headroom with this model. The downside to them is that they swing outward so you can’t park too close.

The similar thing about these two types of garage doors is that they are made in a variety of materials, they can both have the same style to them like either raised or recessed panels and they both can have windows and electric door openers installed for use.
